The Republic of The Gambia actively participated at the 24th Session of the Conference of States Parties (CSP 24) of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) under the auspices of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) that was held in The Hague, the Netherlands, from 25th to 29th November 2019. Her Excellency Teneng Mba Jaiteh, Permanent Representative of The Gambia to the OPCW, delivered a statement on behalf of the Government of The Gambia.
Ambassador Jaiteh called for the need for a World free of chemical weapons and condemned the use of chemicals as weapons anywhere, any time and under any circumstances. She emphasised that in other for this to happen, States that have not yet acceded to the CWC are to do so, to ensure universality. She expressed The Gambia’s appreciation to States Parties that have contributed to the Africa Programmme. The Gambia encourages the peaceful use of chemistry, and science in general, for the promotion of the common good of humanity.
The Gambian delegation comprised Her Excellency Teneng Mba Jaiteh, Permanent Representative of The Gambia to the OPCW, and Mr. Kalifa Singhateh, First Secretary at the Embassy of The Gambia in Brussels.
